She has been here long enough to know her temperament is not the one we look for in managers." IOW, I wasn't a butt-kissing yes-girl. I didn't really want to be a manager, I wanted something different. They talked a good game about professional development but none ever materialized.

Those two little sentences made me so angry I said to the then-boyfriend, now-husband when I got home that night, "F that place. I'm going to get my Ph.D." I gave my two weeks' notice the next day. I suppose I should thank them in a way.Fighting Naturalistnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8964719845369935777.post-23448084482973752142014-08-25T13:01:08.395-04:002014-08-25T13:01:08.395-04:00Okay, what are his qualifications? Note that I was the first person in to work that day, and I had already put in more than 60 hours that week. I lost 17lbs in twelve weeks on that job, despite eating 5000 calories a day. It definitely scared me straight when it came to career choices.

Ogemaniachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02396797613368443908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8964719845369935777.post-81885590218478676362014-08-23T22:38:00.980-04:002014-08-23T22:38:00.980-04:00Adequate is the new inadequate.Adequate is the new inadequate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8964719845369935777.post-11046330175168792572014-08-23T08:25:22.700-04:002014-08-23T08:25:22.700-04:00Under the "I once had..." heading:

The previous year's evaluation, from a different supervisor was "exceeds expectations" and the employee viewed it as a "negative trend." The short conversation went like this:

Employee: "Last year I exceeded expectations in the accuracy category. It subsequently flat-lined and the machine was turned off. I still want to kill him. But he's certainly not worth going to prison for, so hopefully Karma will get him instead.
