It's a bit ironic to be explicitly rejected only by good companies, but that's been my experience.<br /><br />It shouldn't have been a surprise: A company's culture is demonstrated by how they treat job candidates, and there seems to be a correlation between a company's culture and its performance. I think I may have shot myself in the foot at some of my early interviews by acting surprised when an interviewer hadn't seen my resume yet, and answering questions with some phrasing of "RTFM." I soon learned that this is normal, and to bring paper copies of my resume to an interview. It's just an admission that your recruitment process is inherently flawed and you don't want to fix it. It isn't the current generation, it's an effect of the anonymity of Internet dating. If you're lucky enough to find a recently divorced person who hasn't done much online dating yet, they usually don't do this kind of stuff.<br /><br />A lot of people are too limp to have a difficult conversation or give bad news. Likewise felt obligated to call individuals who had done site interviews with the "bad news" even though HR sent them a letter. I've discovered that a lot of younger people think it's perfectly fine to schedule a date and then simply no-show. Their rationale is that you don't owe the person an explanation. While both men and women justify it, I think that women are more prone to do it. Not because they're more rude, but because they face such severe harassment even if they do politely tell someone no.<br /><br />Nonetheless, female or male, I find it unconscionable to not even show the courtesy to send a generic rejection e-mail.
