From an astute reader, an interesting ad from a recruiter clearly tired of one kind of candidate:
Chemist
We are seeking PhD level Formulations Chemist. Our client is heavily involved with the creation of new additives, fuels, oils and lubricants for Industrial applications. These positions will be adding bench strength to the organization.
PLEASE NOTE: Medicinal or Pharmaceutical applicants will not fit for these roles!
Oh, dear. Best wishes to all of us.
Take that, be-yotch!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed quite a few postings for formulations chemists, but I can't for the life of me figure out where you can acquire this knowledge apart from industry, which wants you to already have experience.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:21 although agree most formulations chemists get training in industry setting there are a few universities that have good pre-Pharmacy programs that can provide foundations for drug development world. In terms of areas sought in ad I would suggest more likely to gain relevant knowledge in ChemE or PetE type classes although could be a few isolated academic chemists out there.
ReplyDeleteAs implied shows overabundance of Med/Pharmaceutical chemists on the job market who are desperately jumping on anything which is very sad reflection on current state.
CMCguy
Even a pharmaceutical formulations chemist would not be a good fit for this role. Entirely different set of skills and knowledge base.
ReplyDeleteDo we burn APIs and determine what char remains?
ReplyDeleteNo dogs or med chem allowed!
ReplyDeleteLawl -- clever.
