In this week's Chemical and Engineering News, a preview of what's coming before the ACS Council by Sophie Rovner. Did you know that Barry Trost was running for ACS president in 2013?
Also, did you know that the ACS had a code of conduct?!? I didn't. They're going to update it, apparently. I find this section interesting:
The Committee on Nominations & Elections (N&E) laid the groundwork for the council last fall, when it prepared a slate of nominees for the office of ACS president-elect for 2013. The four nominees are Thomas J. Barton, Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Iowa State University, Ames; Luis A. Echegoyen, Robert A. Welch Professor of Chemistry, University of Texas, El Paso; William A. Lester Jr., professor of the graduate school, University of California, Berkeley, and senior faculty scientist, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and Barry M. Trost, Tamaki Professor, School of Humanities & Sciences, Stanford University. It's time to vote for The Kentucky Colonel, folks.

To Their Employees
Chemical professionals, as employers, should treat subordinates with respect for their professionalism and concern for their well-being, without bias. Employers should provide them with a safe, congenial working environment, fair compensation, opportunities for advancement, and proper acknowledgment of their scientific contributions.Well, it's aspirational at least.
I think Djerassi is the Kentucky Colonel, and Trost is Dave Thomas, right? Or are you proposing a write-in?
ReplyDeleteI dunno if Djerassi is a KY Colonel, but Trost sure is:
