Fresh electrons from
the Bureau of Labor Statistics: the unemployment rate fell from 8.3% to 8.1% between July and August. The
broader U6 measurement of unemployment fell 0.3% to 14.7%. Non-farm payrolls increased by 96,000 jobs.
The big story today will be how the unemployment rate fell; it has a lot to do with the falling labor force participation rate. Sigh.
Thanks, as always to
Calculated Risk, for the graph.
