Good morning! Between January 10 and January 15, there were 79 new positions posted on C&EN Jobs. Of these, 14 (17%) are academically connected and 57 (72%) are from Kelly Scientific Resources.
Sigh: These mornings without much to report from C&EN Jobs are pretty frustrating.
You again: Seattle Genetics is looking, yet again, for a senior process chemist. Someone, help these people out!
Grrr: Vertex is looking for a temporary Ph.D. chemist (research scientist) at its San Diego facility. And of course, it's saying it's unpaid. FWIW, I believe this is an error. An embarrassing error, but an error nonetheless. (Look, Vertex, please don't make me wrong.)
Who are they looking for at Bayer, Ferro and Aceto?: Bayer shows 3 positions for the search term "chemist." Ferro doesn't appear to have a "job listings" page. Aceto shows 2 sales positions that require a chemistry background. (Just as a reminder, I'm picking companies based on their position in the top and bottom of Chemical Week's "CW75 Stock Index." I'll have to get a pharma list as well.)

Hmmm, is a "temporary Ph.D. chemist" one who expects to not have said degree in the near future? For example, having said degree stripped. This must be a very limited subset of Ph.D. chemists......

"These mornings... are pretty frustrating." (Subject/verb agreement, CJ)
ReplyDeleteSo frustrating, in fact, that I can't string sentences together at all. ;-)
DeleteThat unpaid thing is just to lure you in for the application, to make you really intrigued. Then, after you do the interview and find out it really is unpaid, and it's only for hardcore chemists, you won't be able to turn it down.
ReplyDeleteFerro used to have a job page when I looked at them a few years ago. I noticed several companies would remove/de-link their jobs page when in a hiring freeze or similar state.
ReplyDeleteAnd 'Chemist' as a search term will only get about half of the possible jobs. 'Scientist', 'chemical' etc will catch the openings for those in the 'chemical and/or physical/bio sciences'. 'Engineer' is tricky, it might mean memorised-the-steam-tables-in-rankin (dow) or not-a-saleman (intel). And of course, technician/technologist for all those BS holders who are paid to do, not think. Done properly, it's alot of work for a quick&dirty, good-enough indicator, but for someone actually looking for a job then it is worthwhile.
Hey CJ, here's an awesome aerotek job: http://scientific.thingamajob.com/jobs/Illinois/Chemist/2735082
ReplyDelete-Take molecules and put together in formulations
-Help fill vile and syringes
I sincerely hope this is a joke. Either that, or they've outsourced their descriptions to other time zones.
DeleteYou better believe it.
