Re: leachables and extractables, plasticizers would be an example. If you are packaging a chemotherapy agent in, say, an IV bag, you need to ensure that plasticizers from the bag aren't being released into the drug, extracted from the plastic, etc.
ReplyDeleteRe: USDA, that's the full salary range from GS-12 through GS-15. Realistically, someone coming in from outside the govt will probably be brought in at 12 (think Assistant Prof) or 13 (think Associate Prof) unless they have tons of experience. However, USDA is one of the only federal agencies that has unlimited promotion potential for PhD scientists. Most of the others limit 14 and 15 levels to administrative positions but USDA lets you stay at the bench and get to those 120-140K levels just by continuing to publish.
