Lots of interesting things in this week's C&EN:
- This feature article on the environmental chemistry of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill by Jyllian Kemsley was really, really good. It is a good reminder of the power of longform journalism to explain and how blessed chemists are to have C&EN to provide it.
- There is detectable lead in lipstick; it's a good thing that I quit using it a while back. (article by Beth Halford)
- Kodak has empty chemical manufacturing capacity, and they want to fill it. (article by Michael McCoy)
- Marinda Wu talks about ACS New Orleans and her plans for the rest of the year. She covers the the International Employment Initiative. Also, a brief article on the International Center (which, like IEI, aids ACS members in finding overseas positions), by Linda Wang.
I actually did an independent project for my analytical class in undergrad testing for lead in lipstick after reading an article about it. I think it's funny that after a few years people are revisiting it.
