The interesting thing about this song is that 1) many of the jobs highlighted aren't as prevalent in the US anymore (factory, steel worker, auto worker) and 2) many of the jobs they wanted to thank people for doing are now considered to be 'drains on the taxpayers'. (firefighter, mail carrier, police, teacher).
