I don't know where you got the 38 number, but it's horseshit. As stated in a previous entry, there were only 10 positions at the virtual fair, most of them sales/marketing or field applications. None required a Ph.D, none were looking for organic chemists (and the number of people asking about organic/medicinal positions swamped the requests of anybody else). At least 2 of the virtual booths setup by companies never had a person from the company drop by to talk to people. It was a waste of time for anyone looking for an R&D position.
ReplyDeleteActually, now that I think about it, there were only 10 listed positions, but the ACS told people to go to their personal HR site where several other positions were listed (not 28 in my estimation though). Again, none of these required a Ph.D, I don't know that any even required a background in chemistry at all.
If you search on chemistryjobs.acs.org limiting to the virtual career fair, you see there was a big dump of temp jobs from Aerotek. Out of 37 posted jobs, only 7 are not from Aerotek. Of those 7, exactly zero are for lab chemists.
ReplyDeleteSTEM shortage!
I am in agreement with you! Let us face it, the small molecule drug research is done with or we are done here. The small molecule drug approval that are coming through FDA pike are trickling and the drug companies have moved on to biologics. I am not buying any statistics and it is a cruel hoax that is coming out of ACS or other agencies.
