A few of the academically-related positions on C&EN Jobs:

Jupiter, FL: Scripps Florida looking for 2 professors ("all areas of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, natural products chemistry, or chemical biology.")
Spokane, WA: Whitworth University is looking for an interdisciplinary chemistry professor:
Manhattan, KS: Kansas State is looking for a professor of chemical engineering at all levels.
Portland, OR: Reed College is looking for an assistant professor of inorganic chemistry.

What Scripps FL does not advertise is that as a PI you have to cover 100% of your salary through grants, and the overhead is high. If you bring in a funded 250k grant, it will get you just ONE postdoc. Check out the high-profile recent departures of synthetic organic faculty, and find out the reasons why they left.
ReplyDeleteI think folks realize this, but it won't stop a few more organic PIs with grandiose egos from thinking they can still thrive at "Scripps".
DeleteThe Reed position would be a pretty good gig, though it comes up due to a very sad death. The chem dept is trying to replace the wonderful Maggie Geselbracht who succumbed to cancer a few months back.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad, I didn't know that she had died.
DeleteShe was very involved with the Ionic Viper group.
I'm sorry to give you that news. I graduated from Reed. I never took her class, but I heard good things about it -- students really liked her.
DeleteThat Scripps posting is starting to look as evergreen as 3-month temp positions at Vertex, or postdocs at Organix.
ReplyDeleteThat 650 millions of Florida government money subsidy helped to create 650 full time employee jobs in Scripps FL... I think the facilities repairmen and night security guards are included in that number but janitors and cafeteria are on contract, so this actual number of hightech jobs created could be even higher. Plus all the synergies with FAU, like the invaluable campus police random parking ticketing campaigns
