Ridiculous. I live in a low cost of living area in Michigan doing environmental work and make twice that. I know it's a low paying industry but $13/hr in CA? What a slap in the face!
Likely next step: employers complaining they can't fill jobs with qualified employees (STEM shortage! STEM shortage!) and lobby congress to allow more chemistry guest workers from low wage countries. Comparative advantage marches on.....
Reminds me Clint Eastwood in Escape from Alcatraz (being told he is going to earn 30 cents a day working in the prison workshop). His reaction was "I always knew that crime pays, in the end"
