Enjoy! I bought a Subaru last fall but MrOldFogey is driving our 10 year old Camry. It's still doing great and just got its 1st brake job at 10 years/100000 miles. I probably would've gotten another Camry but wanted AWD now that I live somewhere that it snows.
Friday was storm day here in NJ; there was a big downed branch on my block, but it wasn't from my ailing birch tree (which has lots of branches around my neighbor's utility lines...).
I attended a conference the first week of August, then came back to two weeks of instrument installation. As a result of not being able to do anything useful for three weeks, I was buried in an avalanche of work. Assuming my instrument doesn't die, as of this afternoon, I'll be all caught up on things for the first time since the end of July.
Sure, they need some money. A friend of mine just translated their financial records for the month of Rabi al-Awal 1436AH in Deir az-Zor province. It turns out that 45% of revenue comes from 'confiscations' and only 28% from oil and gas. These guys are pros. Tenured professors holding out on glassware for their group will squeal like infidels and magically crap out that IR-ATR or GC-autosampler they've been promising to buy for the last five years.
I'm just trying to get recorded confessions of data cherry-picking (or worse fraud). Hiring a solid professional flogger would be cheaper for me than bringing charges and a university investigation and my subsequent black-balling. A few lashes instituted here and there for general laziness and too much contentment would be good.
That much from confiscations? Wow, that tops the Nazi's. Stealing clearly is a great way to finance a dictatorship/theocracy.
My good news: at 4 AM this morning, after 10 days of reading about thiophene/polythiophene chemistry, learning about how to covalently attach organics to inorganic oxide surfaces, sourcing commercial research articles from E. Snowden/V. Putin and dealing with the rest of life, I finally completed an important section to a research proposal on organic photovoltaics.
Now just need some faculty search committee willing to consider someone with a non-typical background....
looks like Blogger doesn't work with anonymous comments from Chrome browsers at the moment - works in Microsoft Edge, or from Chrome with a Blogger account - sorry! CJ 3/21/20
I'll start. About a month ago, I bought a new-to-me Toyota Camry. It's nice and hasn't fallen apart on me yet. Swanky!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at a Dodge Challenger, but probably will go with a Prius, because it a hell of a lot cheaper. Fits with my vegetarianism I suppose *sigh*

DeleteSweet! And, the government didn't shut down (for now)...
ReplyDeleteNo snow in New England (yet) and the El Niño is developing nicely, so perhaps two snow shovels will be good enough for this Winter...

DeleteWas able to by some Wells Fargo at 49.75 on the dip this morning. Currently above 50.
ReplyDeleteI got a nice e-mail from someone who was recently hired and seems happy with their position so far.
ReplyDeleteMy synthesis appears to have worked. White solid precipitated from reaction mixture. Clean NMR. 'twas a good morning.
ReplyDeleteNo important glassware has been broken during the company move (also a "yet" statement).

ReplyDeleteNo more major correction on my Matlab functions, woohoo.
ReplyDeleteGot a new particle size analyzer installed today. No more windows 95!
ReplyDeleteStill No Job :) & :(
ReplyDeleteFeel free to e-mail me; no promises, but I can keep an eye out for you.
DeleteI had a client pay me in 4 days. That's good news. (Granted, it was an "end of the fiscal year" thing, but nonetheless...)
ReplyDeleteRead some economics news over the past week. It turns out you're DOOOOOOMMMMMed!!!!1!!11!!
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that now you can stop worrying about the little stuff and prepare for you end.
Recall that you can always travel down south and get flogged by some ISIS clown for free. Makes being DOOMed not so bad.
DeleteI'm wondering if I can hire a few ISIS clowns to flog some faculty members where I work.
