A few of the articles from this week's issue of Chemical and Engineering News:
- Cover: "How perfumers walk the fine line between natural and synthetic" (by Melody M. Bomgardner)
- Pretty interesting article about fecal microbiomes and therapies (by Ryan Cross)
- Analytical chemists and opoids in sewer systems (by Alexandra A. Taylor)
- An interview with the Iraqi chemist who was rescued from the Islamic State by his university (by Alla Katsnelson)
- Machines writing textbooks? (by Dalmeet Singh Chawla)
As for the article on machine-written textbooks, I suspect this is already done. The difference between the "fifth edition" and "sixth edition" almost never involves new content; they just jigger the numbers in the homework problems so a kid has to pay $150 for a new book and can't use their friend's old one from last year.
