From a San Diego Union-Tribune article, a link to a Biocom (the biotech trade association) report and a listing of average salaries in various sectors of San Diego County biotech. (PDF)
Do these numbers look a little high for an average salary within the sector? Am I missing something? Also, why are the comparable numbers so low for the Los Angeles area? (PDF)
Trade association numbers - always suspect.

I think one thing that always has to be factored in is the amount of time one is unemployed. So if you make $100,000/ yr, but are unemployed one year for every three, then its really $66,000/ yr.
ReplyDeleteMay want to recalculate that...
DeleteMaybe he/she means one year out of three.
DeleteWho's unemployed for that long?
DeleteDoes it mention how many years of experience that salary is for?
ReplyDeleteIt seems normal to me considering the high cost of living in San Diego, which I believe is higher than in Los Angeles https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/the-true-cost-of-living-in-san-diego-2015-9
42K in San Diego? I hope that is for no degree beyond high school.
ReplyDeleteAs a grad student at a research institute in La Jolla, we're getting bumped to 33k this fall. I'm hoping these salaries stay at this level or increase...
ReplyDeleteNaive question: does "wage" include base salary plus yearly bonuses?
ReplyDeleteHuh, I dunno, probably yes.
