Louisville, KY: Hexion is looking for a product development chemist for resins. The educational requirements are interesting:

PhD in Organic, Polymer Chemistry or related field (Paper Processing) or MS with 5 years of experience or Bachelors of Science with 10+ years experience with an exceptional track record.

I think the place where these requirements go wrong is attempting to specify the number of years of experience needed. Is 8 years of an exceptional track record and a B.S. in chemistry not enough? 

Oak Ridge, TN: Oak Ridge National Laboratories is searching for a postdoctoral position in molten salt synthesis.

Interesting: I found this B.S./M.S.-oriented "Science and Technology Fellowship" program with the Institute for Defense Analyses position unusual and worth some attention. 

McIntosh, AL: BASF is looking for a technology chemist (B.S. in chemistry, experience needed). I really like this slew of buzzwords:

Dayton, NJ: Fascinating little position from Accutest in New Jersey; they're looking for someone who has experience in GC to be an instructor for their company: 

We are currently seeking an experienced college or university level Instructor to join our team to teach analysts and trainees (often, recent graduates) GC and GC/MS techniques for quantitative analysis.  You will work closely with individual employees to ensure that analysts learn and can demonstrate proper laboratory procedures in GC and GC/MS, complying with our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).  We work in a highly regulated environment, and only those analysts who can demonstrate both ability and willingness to follow SOPs can be successful here.  

Don't these people know that's the wrong way to go about things? You're supposed to whine in the news media that your people are untrained by your local schools, and then you're supposed to ask the taxpayer to pick up the bill. (They don't even ask for a Ph.D.!?!??) /sarcasm 

Don't do it: I sense this is a small company in Princeton, NJ is looking for cheap labor, not a synthetic postdoc.

Rochester, MN: I see the Mayo Clinic is looking for a very specific person to be a mass spec research associate:

...Qualified candidates must have a Doctoral degree (PhD) in chemistry, or a human biological science plus a minimum of two years postdoctoral experience working on complex laboratory test development. Candidates must have presented at a minimum of five regional or national venues and is first author on a minimum of six full-length peer-reviewed articles. Candidates must have expertise in Protein/peptide analysis, including post-translational protein modifications. Minimum of 5 years of mass spectrometry experience, developed and validated laboratory tests on a variety of mass spectrometry platforms including triple quads, Orbi-trap (Q-Exactive), and TOF.

What do we think? H1b?

A couple of things: I really wish that there was a code word that employers could put in the ad so that it would mark these ads as "okay to ignore this." Maybe a set of bulleted points where the first letters would spell "FAKE AD."

Also, shouldn't we have a name for these sorts of ads? For some reason, "purple squirrel" doesn't cut it for me.
