BLS: Unemployment rate for April was 6.1%; payrolls rose 266000 positions

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that the national unemployment rate went up to 6.1%, and payrolls rose by 266,000 positions in April.

The broader U6 measurement of unemployment was 10.4%, down from 10.7% in February.

The chemical manufacturing subsector saw a rise in positions from 853300 in March to 855700, a rise of 4300 positions (seasonally adjusted).

The unemployment rate of college graduates was 3.5% for April 2021, while by contrast the unemployment rate for people without a high school diploma was 9.3%.
