Daily Pump Trap: 10/10/13 edition

Good morning! Between October 8 and October 9, there were 47 new positions posted to the C&EN Jobs website. Of these, 24 (51%) were academically connected and 13 (28%) were from Kelly Scientific Resources.

Kenilworth, NJ: Interesting to note that Merck is hiring a senior principal scientist to work as a peptide chemist. 12+ years experience required. You'd be leading a team of "internal and external chemists" -- wonder how many are external, as opposed to internal.

"Northern New Jersey": Takasago is looking for a B.S./M.S./Ph.D. analytical chemist to perform flavoring-related research. GC/GC-MS experience desired. 0-5 years experience for the Ph.D.!

Stevens Point, WI: Ortho Molecular Products is a vitamin/supplements company; they're looking for a B.S. chemist to be a product development chemist.

Wow: Shimadzu must have the most positions of any one company on C&EN Jobs, with 16 positions currently. Two for this edition's time period, including a field sales engineer position in St. Louis. (HPLC/GC/TOC related.)

Richmond, VA: Always interesting to see what the tobacco companies are up to. Altria is looking for a Ph.D. biologist/biochemist:
We are currently seeking a highly qualified Senior Research Scientist to join our Industrial Microbiology and Fermentation department in Richmond, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing proteomics and biochemistry research for tobacco traits development and/or moist smokeless tobacco process improvements and novel process/product development. The selected candidate will use specialized scientific knowledge in molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry and will conduct research towards the development or optimization of new or existing tobacco or non-tobacco processes and will provide insights for development of new products.
Fascinating.
