@PennChemistry will be admitting PhD students in the coming year, although our entering class size will be a bit smaller.

Surprisingly, not too many other chemistry departments are doing this. (none?) Will be curious to see what happens.
I can provide a bit of insight into a mid-tier chem department's admissions. Last year, about half of our admitted students were international. Between the virus's shutting down embassies and various Trump-related shenanigans, those students weren't able to enroll for the fall with spring admission also doubtful.
ReplyDeleteThe consequence is that right now, we're making up for a lost class from last year.
It's not clear whether departments aren't doing it, or haven't been forced to say they're doing it by admin policies handed down from on high.
