The Department of Chemistry at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, one- or two-year position at the level of Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor, to begin August 2025.
Teaching responsibilities will include courses in biochemistry and general chemistry.
Salary: $59,000 - $64,000
Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a relevant field or expect completion of such prior to employment.

Man, that salary range is very low, even for that area...
ReplyDeleteI think it's fairly on-point for the Midwest but I agree it's too low in general. I have a friend with a VAP in Chicago (higher COL) with pay of $65k annually--and they aren't even awarding the full year salary (only September to May). Do you have any days points for higher paid VAP positions?

While I don't think it is fair to compare a professor's salary to a household rather than per capita, the average medical doctor's salary is about 250k and as a chemistry phd who was in classes with future doctors who struggled with physics and gen chem, it is frustrating that 5 years of training in an intellectually challenging field doesn't get more.
