Reddit: Iowa State Chemistry cancels PhD admissions for international student

Via Reddit:

This is the Trump Administration's doing, and it is bad for the country.

  1. I'm a alumna of this program and just called the chem grad office to ask what the state of admissions is: none for the fall? Fewer groups getting new students than normal? Any difference between domestic and international students? I used my friendly voice and said I was just concerned as an alumna, I can understand why they might make such a decision, but I wanted to know if there was a specific percentage reduction or another clear policy. She took my contact information for "the person who's answering this kind of question".

I'm glad for admin staff's sake that there's a point person for this.

  2. I disagree that this is the Trump Administration's doing. This is the University's doing, while its top administrators cash in huge fortunes of money, just like the ACS. Faculty are also not innocent - they often exploit international students and treat them poorly. I can name a few in my specific discipline.
