Why the vengeful spirit of R. B. Woodward hasn't appeared, shooting lightning bolts and breaking Scotch bottles over people's heads, I just can't figure.I used this website to come up with the captioned photo, using this image.
I'm sure you could do better; the website will allow you to change the captions. Put links to your submissions in the comments.
Woodward doesn't need any Belviq!

ReplyDeleteWoodward kinda looked like LBJ in that picture.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure out if RBW was too courtly to pull off some of the stunts that LBJ did.
DeleteSpeaking of RBW, I am wondering if he would have even become a chemist today?
ReplyDeleteI guess he would never walk by a chemistry department.
DeleteA white male? RBW wouldn't even be able to land an interview.
DeleteInterestingly Woodward flirted with a few other creative disciplines, most notably mathematics and architecture, before committing himself to chemistry. Given the current climate it is likely he may have decided on something else.

ReplyDeleteWoodward was a genius. Whatever he touched would be gold I'm sure. He probably would not be in chemistry, but in software of some sort. It is not that chemistry is any less intellectually stimulating, it is just that chemists are not appreciated in the US anymore.

ReplyDeleteI can't get rid of this image in my head: Woodward pimp-slapping a hapless natural products chemist for missing 4 bromines.
