Well, I have a new car, so all is not lost. We made it through yet another week. I hope you have a good weekend.

    An excellent bit of Prokofiev, but with a very interesting backstory... the Soviets intended the Kije story to be a morality play about the evils of the Czarist system, particularly the bit where absolute power combined with the perceived infallibility of the leader resulted in horrific distortions. This would turn out to be a feature of the Soviet system.

    It's hard to imagine music better suited to sipping vodka and contemplating the winter outside one's window than the Troika movement.
