Take with a grain of salt...
...but I find this graph from Indeed of trending in chemist job ads to be pretty close to reality. While we might quibble with some of the details, I think it jibes with my general sense of things. (Thanks to @kromablography for finding this.)

Frankly, much as this trend agrees with my feelings about general direction of job market, I've decided that for me "chemist" is not the most reliable search term.
