The 2022 Faculty Jobs List: 429 research/teaching positions and 34 teaching positions

The 2022 Chemistry Faculty Jobs List (curated by Andrew Spaeth and myself) has 429 research/teaching positions and 34 teaching positions.

On November 10, 2020, the 2021 Chemistry Faculty Jobs List had 165 research/teaching position and 14 teaching positions. On November 12, 2019, the 2020 Chemistry Faculty Jobs List had 463 research/teaching positions and 29 teaching positions.

  7. University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon, and Rochester had early deadlines (sept 30/oct 1) but it looks like we haven't heard anything about them... anyone have any news on these?

    The current thread format is not an efficient way to share status updates. I made a spreadsheet here:

    3. I also received an email for equipment pricing, and never heard from them afterward. Either they are conducting interviews in stages or they had a medium list that they had to trim to a short list for zoom interviews. Best of luck to those who made it.

  46. Just got a invite for a Zoom screener from IU (Indiana University), even though it was reported on the first open thread on Nov 8th that they'd started sending invites. Let this be a lesson: not *all* hope is necessarily lost if you see your uni of choice pop up here.

    4. 300 applicants isn't too surprising considering the backlog of people and it is an open position so all areas will apply.

    5. Out of curiosity, do you think 300 applicants would be surprising in a normal, non-pandemic year? What's normal for an R1 in a college town far from the coasts?

  49. NYU chem bio search is scheduling onsites, Caltech and Scripps are scheduling 1st round screening interviews.

    1. The Scripps Research Institute? The app says, "The first round of review will be on applications submitted by November 30, 2021, with top candidates contacted for reference letters and/or virtual interviews starting in December 2021." Why would they lie about that lol
