Ivory Filter Flask: 3/27/12 edition

Good morning! Between March 20 and March 26, 19 new academic positions have been posted to the ACS Careers website. The numbers:

Total number of ads:  19
- Postdocs:  2
- Tenure-track faculty:   4
- Temporary faculty:  7
- Lecturer positions: 5
- Staff positions: 1
- Ratio of US/non-US positions: 15/4

Cambridge, MA: It's always funny to see when regal institutions have their own language. Harvard is searching for 2 "preceptors" in chemistry that are "non-ladder teaching position[s]". In other words, Harvard is looking for 2 non-tenure-track lecturers, one a 1-year appointment, the other a 3 year appointment.

Israel: The Israel Fulbright program is looking for postdocs -- enjoy!

Small college of the week: Johnson C. Smith University (Charlotte, NC, student population: 1,500 -- SA-LUTE!) is looking for an assistant professor of organic chemistry.

New York City, NY: Rockefeller University is searching for professors of chemical biology of all ranks, among others.

Sewanee, TN: The University of the South desires a one-semester visiting assistant professor of organic chemistry.

Honolulu, HI: Hawaii Pacific University wishes to hire an assistant professor of chemistry with instrumental experience and experience with biological assays. Aloha!

  1. @CJ: I'm surprised that Harvard is sending out this open invitation. Doesn't it have enough grad students & postdocs to teach its esteemed undergrads? Besides, it can always pillage teachers from MIT, BC, BU, or heaven forbid, Northeastern. The following excerpt is most amusing/disturbing:

"The position is for an initial one-year appointment renewable on a yearly basis for up to eight years, contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need."

Can you imagine being a head TA for 8 years?!
