Daily Pump Trap: 5/10/12 edition

Good morning! Between May 8 and May 9, there were 25 new positions posted on the ACS Careers database. Of these, 5 (20%) were academically connected and 16 (64%) were from Kelly Scientific Resources.

Baltimore, MD: Sterilex Corporation is looking for a B.S./M.S. chemist with 2+ years experience in formulating consumer cleaning products for a research chemist position. EPA/FIFRA understanding important.

Stockton, CA: Corn Products International is looking for a head of its QC laboratory; B.S. in chemistry desired with knowledge of "GMP, HACCP, Food Drug and Cosmetics Act and FDA regulations and experience with ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 quality systems." Sounds exciting.

Santa Maria, CA: PrimusLabs is a food safety laboratory; they need a B.S. chemist with analytical instrumentation experience. Nights, weekends, early morning availability important (isn't that nice?)

Would someone please take this position?: Monster has been advertising this polymer/ink chemist position in Colorado Springs, CO for what seems like forever. M.S./Ph.D. desired.

A broader look: Monster, Careerbuilder, Indeed and USAjobs.gov show (respectively) 272, 809, 3141 and 35 positions for the search term "chemist."

  1. I declare that the opening in Colorado Springs is proof positive that there is a lack of STEM capable people in the workforce. There is no unemployment problem for STEM, there never has been.

    1. That last post was entirely tongue-in-cheek. I was imagining the Iraqi minister of propaganda as I was typing it.

  2. Stockton is a hideous little town with a high crime rate.

    1. Stockton is neither a town nor little (even by California standards), though hideousness is in the eyes of the beholder.
Given a choice, I'd take that job over working for free in San Diego.
