Ivory Filter Flask: 7/3/12 edition

Good morning! Between June 26 and July 2, there were 8 academic positions posted on the ACS Careers website. The numbers:

Total number of ads: 8
- Postdocs: 0
- Tenure-track faculty:  2
- Temporary faculty: 1
- Lecturer positions:  2
- Staff positions:  3
- Ratio of US/non-US positions: 7 / 1

Syracuse, NY: SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry would like to hire a B.S. chemist for a position as the organic and analytical lab coordinator. 33k-39k.

This is what shortage looks like: The University of New Mexico (located on the same street as the fabulous Frontier Restaurant, I might add) is hiring a "Lecturer 3" in chemical engineering. Why am I noting this? Because this position has a starting salary of $72,000. Good heavens -- I'll bet that rivals assistant professor salaries in chemistry.

Villanova, PA: Villanova would like to hire 2 Ph.D. instructors of general and analytical/physical chemistry.

Utica, NY: Utica College wishes to hire a one-year visiting assistant professor of organic chemistry.
