Sugar Land, TX: Fairmount Minerals is looking for a polymer research associate; M.S./Ph.D. desired, 3-5 years experience.
Sherbrooke, Quebec: Transzyme Pharma is looking for a Ph.D. medicinal chemist with 5+ years experience in the field.
New York, NY: D.E. Shaw Research is, once again, looking for computational chemists and the like. I would love to talk to people who know something about what their work is like...
No more kudos: GSK is once again advertising its ESPRIT managerial recruitment program for Ph.D. chemists. They seem to have changed a single word in their ad (emphasis mine):
It is heavily backed by our senior management team, and it will give you incredible standing as a chemist among your peers.Let me be clear -- it will give you the envy of your peers as to your salary, but entering the business/management track will not give you "standing as a chemist."
[In all honesty, I think a program like this is admirable, in that I support all efforts of companies to train their employees and groom them for management positions. However, I think that it should be aimed at entry-level folks internally, not externally. Call me crazy.]
Anyone know if the GSK listing is just because GSK has a policy about posting ALL positions (even though they already have someone in mind/picked out/only looking at internal candidates?

ReplyDeleteUnless they are destined to be lay-off fodder.
