A broader look: Monster, Careerbuilder, Indeed and USAjobs.gov show (respective) "1000+", 345, 10,121 and 19 positions for the search term "chemist." LinkedIn shows 2,273 positions for the search term "chemist". I did a little experiment today where I searched the following job titles both without quotes on the job title, and with. The 'without' quotes is the first number. Analytical chemist: 184/216. Research chemist: 49/39. Formulation chemist: 41/35. Synthetic chemist: 405/15. Medicinal chemist: 51/15. Organic chemist: 63/28.

For your broader look, try searching "chemistry" instead of "chemist". Many job postings don't show up when just searching "chemist", especially on indeed...
