Daily Pump Trap: 6/24/13 edition

Good morning! Between June 20 and June 24, there were fifty new positions on the C&EN Jobs website. Of these, three (6%) were academically connected and 39 (78%) were from Kelly Scientific.

Beerse, Belgium: This experienced Ph.D. process chemist position sounds endlessly fascinating. I must get there someday.

Audubon, PA: Mysterious global CRO looking for B.S. chemists with LC/MS experience.

I AM A CHEMIST… And I work for the American Chemical Society (ACS)!
As a sales professional, if the sound of that declaration resonates with you, then you will be excited to learn that Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the ACS is currently hiring!
Hmmm. Hmmmm.

  1. Hmmm, indeed. Interested in a CAS job? First ask yourself if you wish to apply as a qualified applicant and never receive a response. Phantom jobs? Extended Solitaire tournament in Columbus? HR House of Cards?

  2. This sort of anonymity is frustrating to job seekers and I have no sympathy for companies that try this. The "mysterious global CRO" is, with a high degree of confidence, Eurofins/Lancaster Labs. They have a site in Audubon, PA. As a high-throughput outfit (with specialties in GLP Metabolism, Environmental Fate, and Residue Chemistry studies), they always need more hands. Speaking to people who've worked there, it's a decent place to start your career.
