Daily Pump Trap: 8/7/12 edition

Good morning! Between August 2 and August 6, there were 85 new positions posted on the ACS Careers website. Of these, 23 (27%) were academically connected and 36 (42%) were from Kelly Scientific Resources.

Sweet?: Tate and Lyle, the makers of Splenda (among other things) is looking for 4 positions nationwide, one of them an experienced Ph.D. food chemist.

Waterbury, CT: MacDermid, a specialty chemical company, is looking for B.S./M.S. chemists (5+ years experience) for its analytical laboratories. How do I know they're really looking? They've included a phone number.

Westbrook, ME: Sappi Fine Chemicals is looking for a Ph.D. analytical chemist with experience in organic, inorganic and polymer chemistry for its analytical/troubleshooting group.

Are you an engineer? Wanna be?: If so, you could participate in the destruction of chemical weapons:
U.S. ARMY ELEMENT, ASSEMBLED CHEMICAL WEAPONS ALTERNATIVES (ACWA), Pueblo, CO--SALARY RANGE: $68,809 - $106,369 Seeking a motivated, enthusiastic engineer to be part of a multibillion dollar project, overseeing all aspects of the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant project in Southern Colorado. The plant, which is currently under construction, will destroy the chemical weapons stockpile currently stored at the Pueblo Chemical Depot. The Government Shift Rep job is a challenging and highly rewarding full-time Federal position that offers relocation incentives, health and retirement benefits and life insurance.
I wonder if that's a bit low, for the described position. Hard to say.

Florence, SC: Ahhh, you all again -- IRIX Pharmaceutical is looking for a Ph.D. process chemist, with experience in scale-up and plant operations. Paying 65-85k.

[Psst - if you're still putting out ads, and still looking, you might want to offer more.]

The Chemists of NIMH: The National Institutes of Mental Health are looking for Ph.D. chemists for its postdoctoral program in PET chemistry.

South San Francisco, CA: Genentech is looking for a postdoctoral fellow in biophysical chemistry:
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the Late Stage Pharmaceutical Development Department focusing on the impact of protein-protein interactions on the interfacial properties and dynamics of proteins. In particular, the impact of hydrophobic moieties as well as primary sequence on monoclonal antibody structure and properties will be examined through a variety of biophysical tools.
A strong background in biophysical/interfacial chemistry, and/or quantitative biochemical analysis is essential. The candidate should have hands-on experience working with biophysical protein characterization techniques and surface sensitive techniques.
